The new Minister for Tertiary Education is Anne Tolley who is also Minister of Education. Dr Wayne Mapp, a former University of Auckland academic staff member, is Associate Minister for Tertiary Education. Dr Mapp is also Minister of Research, Science and Technology. There are two support party Associate Ministers of Education outside of Cabinet, Heather Roy (ACT) and Dr Pita Sharples (Māori Party). The other portfolio of interest to universities is the new post of Minister for Infrastructure which has gone to the Deputy Prime Minister, Hon Bill English.
