Freyberg Scholarships are awarded to encourage graduate study into areas relevant to national security.
Study should be undertaken at a recognised institution in an Asia-Pacific country, including Canada and the United States. The scholarships are not available for study within, or from, New Zealand.
It is appropriate that the name of the late Lord Freyberg is associated with this scholarship given his distinguished record in the New Zealand Armed Forces and his great contribution to New Zealand security.
Applicants must be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents who meet the following academic requirements: they should normally have obtained at least second class honours, division A, or equivalent in their qualifying degree and have completed academic studies in political science, history, economics or some other discipline that may be considered an appropriate foundation for such study.
Note that preference will be given to applicants seeking funding for Masters level study (refer to the Regulations).
$70,000 will be made available annually for the award of one or more scholarships.
