Special Admission

Persons over the age of 20 years, who are New Zealand or Australian citizens or permanent residents of either country, may enrol at a New Zealand university without having to produce evidence of any academic qualifications. Some universities, however, will ask for your secondary school results and any other evidence of study undertaken so that they may give you appropriate advice.

It is not always possible to enrol in the degree of your choice. Some specialised degrees require a high standard of performance in the examinations leading to the university entrance qualification or other evidence of high academic achievement. But admission to a programme for a general degree such as a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science should be relatively easy to arrange. Once you have achieved some good results you may be able to change to another programme if that is your wish.

In all cases a good standard of English is expected and universities may require evidence of this from people who are not native English speakers.
