BayTrust Kaitiakitanga Scholarship

Bruce Cronin was the first manager of BayTrust serving from 1996 to 2014.

This scholarship has been established to recognise his service to the people of the Bay of Plenty.

The scholarship is to support postgraduate study at masters or doctoral level at a New Zealand university.


Applicants must have links to the BayTrust geographical area. Applicants will be eligible if they were born in, or attended school in, or have whakapapa back to the area. This area is shown on the BayTrust website

Applicants area of research must be relevant to "Protecting and improving our environment for future generations".

Value, number and tenure

The value of each award is $5,000.

Up to two scholarships are awarded each year.

Opening date

1 October

Closing Date

1 February for tenure in the same year.

A selection committee will be convened by Universities NZ.

Their decision will be made as soon as possible after the closing date for applications.
