Planning your study

How to choose my study?

Our advice is to follow your passions – study what interests you and what you love doing.

Start by making sure you understand your strengths – talk with teachers or your careers adviser, those who work in the areas or organisations that interest you.

Use the toolkits available. Check out our guide "Thinking about University?", which walks you, your parents and whanāu through all the steps. Have a look at Careers NZ and university websites.

Consider taking the opportunity to study new options and specialist subjects, rather than just replicating what you studied at school.

Find out more about graduate outcomes including employment prospects and graduate earnings in the fields that interest you. Have a look at our research on outcomes for New Zealand graduates and check scenarios on our Graduate Outcomes website.
