Support available

Each university provides academic support and pastoral care for the well-being of their international students.

Code of Practice for the pastoral care of international students

In addition, New Zealand has a Code of Practice that sets benchmarks for the pastoral care of international students.

The Code sets out minimum standards of advice and care that can be expected and provides a procedure that students can follow if they have concerns about the treatment they receive from their education provider or agent of a provider.

A copy of the Pastoral Care of International Students Code of Practice is available in a number of languages from the NZQA website.

International Student Contract Dispute Resolution Scheme (DRS)

This is a free process for students to resolve any contractual or financial disputes with education providers. The Ministry of Education is responsible for the scheme, which is administered by FairWay Resolution Limited. Go to the iStudent Complaints website to find out about the complaints process.
