John was passionate about helping people and wished to make a contribution towards supporting research into mental health in New Zealand with a long term aim to provide research that is of direct benefit to New Zealand and its people. The purpose of the scholarship is to provide funds for individuals to undertake research at a New Zealand or Australian university in the area of mental health. Preference may be given to research into alcohol and drug addiction.
