John A.E. Britton Scholarship

The funds for this scholarship are provided by the income from a bequest made by the late John Britton, from Otaki. John was passionate about helping people and wished to make a contribution towards supporting research into mental health in New Zealand with a long term aim to provide research that is of direct benefit to New Zealand and its people. The purpose of the scholarship is to provide funds for individuals to undertake research at a New Zealand or Australian university in the area of mental health. Preference may be given to research into alcohol and drug addiction.

Eligibility:

Applications will be accepted from applicants who meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Have graduated from a New Zealand university in a field relevant to their proposed research, 
  • Have gained, or expect to gain entrance into a relevant research degree in either New Zealand or Australia in the year immediately following the scholarship closing date,  
  • Intend to make a career in the area of Mental Health on completion of their studies,
  • Are a New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Resident.

Value and Number awarded:

The tenure will be determined by the selection committee each year.

The current annual value of the funds available for the scholarship is NZ$15,000.
